Cameroon, a country in Central Africa, has a long history of producing agricultural commodities such as cocoa, coffee, and cotton. In recent years, however, ginger has emerged as an increasingly important crop in the country.
Ginger is widely grown in the region due to its adaptability to diverse ecological conditions and its high demand in international markets. Among the growers count Nom’s Ginger, a cooperative of farmers in Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon.
It was established in 2017 with the goal of enhancing the production and marketing of ginger in the region. The cooperative has faced various challenges in its quest to expand production and improve the quality of its products. One of the major challenges has been the lack of modern machinery and equipment for processing and packaging ginger.
Fortunately, earlier this week the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) stepped in to help. TİKA provided Nom’s Ginger with a range of modern machinery and equipment for processing and packaging ginger.
The project included an automatic bagging machine, a washing machine, a peeler, a fruit and vegetable dryer, a gas stove, a generator, a computer, cookware, and production equipment to be used in the production and packaging stages.
The support from TİKA has had a significant impact on Nom’s Ginger. According to a new report, the production capacity of the cooperative has quadrupled, thanks to the new machinery and equipment. The new equipment has also helped to improve the quality of the ginger powder, granulated ginger, and ginger tea produced by the cooperative.
With the new machinery and equipment, Nom’s Ginger can now produce high-quality ginger products that meet international standards.
Moreover, the support from TİKA is said to have a positive impact on the local community. The project has created employment opportunities for 15 people who are involved in the production and distribution of the ginger products. This has provided a source of income for the local people and helped to boost the local economy.
The support from TİKA has been a game-changer for Nom’s Ginger and ginger farmers in Cameroon. The modern machinery and equipment provided by TİKA have helped to enhance the production and marketing of ginger in the region.
Ginger is an important crop in Cameroon, and the support from TİKA has helped to boost the country’s agricultural sector. The project has also had a positive impact on the local community, providing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy. With the new machinery and equipment, Nom’s Ginger is well-positioned to continue producing high-quality ginger products that meet international standards.
